I picked up that 1894 - nice shape now I have a decision to make: it came with base & rings so, VX-2 1-4X or Skinner peep......

For me, it would depend on where I planned on using it. If I was going to use it for hunting over fields, I'd scope it. If I were going to use it primarily in the woods, I'd peep sight it. Nice looking rifle.

Believe it or not 44Mag, Yeah Decatur - it's a woods gun, I'm leaning towards the peep myself.

Is it already tapped for a scope? If so I would go with the Leupy. If not, I would go with the peep.

I decided to go with Leupolds FXII 2.5X Ultralight. My FG has a peep so I decided to be a little different with this one, besides I have the base & rings.

I took the scope off my Ruger 77/44 and mounted a peep sight for hunting Deer in my woods/brushy areas. There shots are short ranged about 50 yards at the most. However, I haven't used it since I moved here.

I shot a guys 45-70 with a EOtech red dont on it. Man I will tell you what , for fast accusition and quick shots its hard to beat that little dot , my longest shot in our woods is around 70 yards tops so I am thinking of putting one on my ML

Nice lever, If its a woods gun or brush gun a ghost site would be my choice unless the old eyes wont let you, then a 1.5x4 Leupold would be nice. h.h.

They're unbeatable for quick shooting at 100 yds or less.
