My friend and I had a great clean-up hunt today. It felt like a classic hunt in that we hunted good cover and birds were very strong fliers. We saw ten birds all together and each took our limit. Some very memorable points from Sophie and my friend's twelve year-old GSP Dallas. It was a joy to watch the dogs work. The RBL did well: two shots, two birds. Great hunt but only two crappy pics... Here's Jim waiting for me to take pictures of Dallas and Sophie on point...Me and my girl...Cary

Hello, yes, very fun!
Made it out again today and had another great time but for some reason I started a missing streak. Been a long time since I missed easy shots at pheasants. The recent action has done Sophie wonders and the sound of her beeper going off is getting to be a regular thing lately. My proudest moment came when she retrieved a pheasant to hand. I was quite suprised to see her come around the corner with it. I savored the moment so much I did not take a pic. Next time...
Another great day afield and a good week to take a vacation.

Made it out once more for a special trip. I took a friend who had not hunted for some time. He has always loved bird hunting but trouble with his hip makes it hard to walk. We were very limited in how far we could go and I hated to see him suffer, but he was a trooper and just enjoyed it all. As we headed back to the truck admiring Sophie work, she went on point in some thick secondary growth. A tight-holding hen and a tough shot left us with only a great memory. A hundred yards further on she locks up again. Same cover, only thicker, and they hold very tight. I have to unload my gun and begin to crawl in as several quail pop out (season closes early at this FWA). More great memories! After my friend retired to the truck, I made a loop to find him some dinner. Sophie points a bobwhite quail cock, then she worked up a flighty hen from a very thick field. A long shot, and then a recovery by Sophie. Returning to the truck, she works right next to a road. I don't like this and she knows it, but she just looks worried and will not come (this means bird). I unload and leave my gun and then flush a beautiful rooster from right next to the road. Sophie and dinner...Another great and special trip on a beautiful wintery day. I hope it inspired my friend to get his hip problem fixed and get back out there. I really wanted to get back out before the snow melts, but decided to take thursday off to do chores (ugh) and give dog a rest. Cary

Thanks for sharing Ski. Your Vizsla is beautiful. I am thinking about one of those for my next dog.

thanks for posting and the kind words. I know I'll get another one someday. After a day of rest, we took a break from the clean-up hunts and did a late morning quail hunt at another FWA. Walked some great cover but no birds. Still a great day

Good looking dog...I've always had Brittanys, but I could have a Vizsla some day.
