During my FRIGID hunt on Friday, I dang near "lost" my H&R Handi Rifle. My hands were so froze, I didn't realize that I couldn't feel my utility rope to lower the gun until it slipped a few feet - which was also a real good reminder as to why I never raise or lower a loaded gun. The gun hit the side of my stand and put about a one inch scratch on the barrel. The more I looked at the scratch, I thought how I wasn't all that impressed with the H&R Blue job. It looks pretty thin to me. I'm not complaining since I know it is not a high dollar gun. However, I'm growing into liking this gun real well and might like to give it a better finish.
Here's my questions: Should I do a simple repair (ie., something like Blue Wonder) or do the whole barrel? Is there something you all recommend that might give me a better, durable finish?

Bluing on the Handi's does suck, I always thought the more beat up they are the better they look. Can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear. I did buy a .44 barrel that had been painted and I re blued it with Blue Wonder and it looks pretty good.

I would guess that if you keep the gun you'll eventually reblue, or camo, the entire thing, so maybe just make it a winter, off-season project.

Since its a single barrel you might like to parkerize it. Kits are available and they don't cost that much. h.h.

Battle scares. I would just slap some insta blue on it and forget it. I put a nice ding in my Handi's stock when it hit my stand while pulling it up this year. Finish does suck on these guns, but that's the only thing that does. They are real shooters and make fine deer guns.
