OK... the latest is:
The doc thinks there is NOT a GI leak. Things have been looking better. She did a tracer study thru her GI tract yesterday, and things are moving, although a little slowly in one spot. Doc thinks that will resolve with time.
The plan is to keep an eyeon her for a couple more days... pull her abdominal drain and send her home.
Nothing like a vet bill that you have to make payments on!
Had I known the full cost up front, I probably would not have done it... But now that it's all but done, I guess I am glad I did.

Jabba, so glad to hear your ole pup is on the mend! I know that I would be lost without mine, they get to be just like kids when you don't have any little ones running underfoot! ;D

Tough call that would have been to make! But glad that things are looking up for Bailey, even if your pocketbook is going to be a little lighter for awhile.

I don't think you will regret spending the money. She is worth it.. I agree. I had to make a similar decision a few years back. You can always make more money, but you can't get your companion back when they're gone.

Update 2-3-2010 For those of you following my Dog Bailey's progress here is an update. She has had little to no appetite since the surgery. She has not had a bowel movement. They did a tracer study thru her GI tract, and found a kink... or something in her intestine, and decided that yet another exploratory surgery was needed. The Vet, while already having waived over $1200 in fees for me, waived another $1000 for this one, and committed to doing everything for a flat fee of $3200. The surgery yesterday went well. Everything looked good. All her labs were good. There was a little kink in her intestine, and they blamed the lack of intestinal motility on something called illius. It's when the intestines get paralyzed by the anesthesia for a period of days... Well, the doc squeezed the poop from her colon, and was happy to report that it looked as good as poop can look. The peritonitis is mostly resolved. So now we just need to get her eating. I guess she had 2 craps after the surgery, so the Vet thinks that by her going in and stimulating all her intestines and stuff that they have started to mobilize again, and is hopeful that her appetite will return, and she will start to eat, and gain some weight back. She's lost 13 lbs. From 73 to 60. The plan is for her to come home on Monday. We're almost there guys... thanks for all the support. Jabba

Still positive news. Bless that Vet.
I bet she starts eating when she gets home, My dog will sometimes skip meals when I am away. Once home and all back to normal, she digs right in.
thanks for the update.
