Text for the Day -- Psalm 50:7-8, 13, 16-17, 22-23 ---------- ‘Hear, O my people, and I will speak, O Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God. Not for your sacrifices do I rebuke you; your burnt-offerings are continually before me. Do I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
But to the wicked God says: ‘What right have you to recite my statutes, or take my covenant on your lips? For you hate discipline, and you cast my words behind you.
‘Mark this, then, you who forget God, or I will tear you apart, and there will be no one to deliver. Those who bring thanksgiving as their sacrifice honor me; to those who go the right way I will show the salvation of God.’
Devotional ---------- God calls the people of the nation into his court of judgment. God testifies against them, not as to their sacrifices or worship, but as to thanksgiving and prayer. If they do pray and give thanks, God will be there for them. But, those who reject God's word are judged harshly. The psalm concludes with a sobering warning.
Prayer ------- Help me to give thanks and honor you gracious Lord. Amen
