I had one that had a very oversized bore. I cast some .433 bullets that shot fairly well. That was a couple of years ago. Hopefully they have corrected that problem. That is what happens with them - and no they haven't yet. They just made the move to NY, we'll see what that means for the future.

The current (2010) Marlin catalog shows that all M1894 rifles in .44 Mag are now made with barrels having deep-cut, Ballard-type rifling (6 grooves). I have not yet had experience with the new barrels. Hopefully, by now Marlin has cured the over-sized bore problem. The rifling twist remains at 1 turn in 38 inches.

I took the scope off the rail, took the screws out of the rail, cleaned it up, put loc-tite on the screws, tightened everything back up, remounted the scope with the same rings and made sure everything was tightened down. I then took Danf advice and bought some Remington 40x and ran that through the barrel. What a difference! 1" groups at a 100 yards. What a great feeling to have confidence in your gun! Thanks everyone for your advise!

My son in law must have the same batch that yours came from only his is worse. I had the 357 Handi and it would hit a plate half of the time I just never knew which half so I sold it.

The OP found the problem to be with the scope mount.

The H&R Hand is,as far as I know, made in the USA. Might be but where are they getting their material? Marlin actually makes the barrels for H&R and N.E.F. and the steel is from the good ole USA.
