I got a survey in the mail yesterday for this season from the USFWS, and from what it says everytime i go hunting, if i take rails, snipe, moorhens (closed), and coots, i'm to record how many i took and number of retrived or not retrived birds, i take it this is for population, am i right. And did any of you get this same survey.

I get one most years, but not yet this year. Just a way to get an idea of what species of birds are being taken in what areas.

Yep just one of the ways USF&W keeps records on harvest stats. Waterfowl hunters have to be the most scrutinized group of hunters in Indiana at least. Maybe some of the big game states survey more but when you include the HIP info and all the different surveys they have for migratory birds the data is massive.
I didn't get one this year but I have had several over the years. Never had the opportunity to do the wing survey and hope I never do. That adds more effort then recording numbers and dates.

I had the wing survey last year. I had a terrible year with getting time to hunt, hunt areas being dry, and managed to kill 1 bird all year. And unfortunately I forgot to send the wing in...

The wing survey is cool, they send you back some interesting data.
