i tried turkey hunting for the first time this year and got not a single sight of one. but this eve. not more than a half mile from my place .lo and behold there stood a big old tom ,right beside the road. i thought, well that figures.but it did give me the urge to try again in the fall.

Dude
Don't give up. Go out this next fall and remember those things you did that had a positive impact on the hunt in the spring season. Pattern the birds all summer and be ready to set up at the most desirable location for the fall season opener.

It was my 3rd season before I took my first gobbler....and that was a jake. Remember....it's the journey, not the destination! Enjoy being out there. I get a shot of adrenaline simply from a gobble off in the distance. Set your mentality that if you even HEAR one, than it was a successful trip afield.......everything above hearing one is simply gravy!

You should have started back when 450-500 birds was the total harvest for the state! I hunted five years before hearing one, but when I finally did it was a sound I knew I would never forget. In the first five years I saw more boy scout troops than turkeys south of Lake Monroe. The turkey populations has really done well over the recent years, they always talk about the " good old days" well that is now in the Indiana turkey woods.
