Text for the Day -- Job 40:6-9, 42:1-6 ---------- Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind: "Gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you declare to me. Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be justified? Have you an arm like God, and can you thunder with a voice like his?
Then Job answered the LORD: "I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know. 'Hear, and I will speak; I will question you, and you declare to me.' I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you; therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes."
Devotional ---------- Job comes to a new knowledge of God through his experiences of being tested. God has a purpose in what God does, but it is often unknown to us. Job repents as a sign of his realizing that he is dust and ash when compared to God. He acknowledges his finiteness and weakness before God. Job's life is restored to him. Look for God's purpose in all your struggles in life as God works to carry you through.
Prayer ---------- You are God, O Lord, and I am human. Help me remember that. Amen
