I dropped my bird off last Sat. at Artistic Taxidermy.
He is doing a full strut mount, but I told him I was going to build my own base. I have seen a couple Octagon bases and basic squares.
Does anyone have any photo's or ideas for a one of a kind base?
Thanks,
Rod

A buddy of mine has a strutting turkey mount that has a couple of fake morels, the empty hull he shot the bird with, and a coon skull, all scattered amongst leaves and other forest litter. It looks really cool!

He makes all the plaques and bases for Dean Stallion of American Taxidermy in Boonville. He can give you some ideas as he has made ALL kinds of different bases.

If you've got the floor space, go for it. I opted for a limb mount, 3/4 strut gobbling on the roost, it takes up less space, is out of the way and is the first thing you see when you walk into my office/rec room. I don't have to worry about dogs chewing on it, kids wanting to pet or touch it or someone walking into or tripping over it. But I suppose that's what a glass case is for, provided that you have room for it.

switzerland, I've done several turkey bases for taxidermist. If they want a fancy one I'll usually go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some nice oak baseboard. I almost always make them in an octagon shape. It looks so make nicer. I'll build the frame from select 2 x 4s. Here are a couple of pics from my old game room. The 4 birds together are the 4 sub-species. The dead mount is one my favorites. I used 5 1/2" oak baseboard on it. It's not cheap but it is good looking.

A friend of mine had his mounted on a whiskey barrel standing on end. I did the same with mine. The base is any board you would like to use and then screw it to the top of the barrell. I then collected leaves, twigs, acorns, etc. from the exact location I shot the bird. I covered the top of the barrell and the base board with this items along with the spent shell used to take the bird. It looks great and natural.
Congrats on your bird by the way.

bsutravis, Thanks! We've moved to a smaller house since those pics where taken. I dont have any of the turkeys at my house now My taxidermist has them on display at his shop and the Ross goose is on display at Wal-Mart.
