Camera Batteries?

Does or has anyone every fixed up a trail camera with a 6v battery instead of the 6D batteries? I've seen this done somewhere but was wondering if anyone really did it and how it worked. Price of batteries is gettign to far out there and a 6v battery is a 3rd of the price as 6-8 D batteries. And the word was they lasted longer.
