My SIL has one. I don't care for it, I shoot the compact M&P much better; however everyone is different so try one if you can & go from there.

parson, try one of these first: Kahr CW9 (9mm Luger), I just picked it up a few weeks ago, it shoots very well with cheap factory loads. Including shipping and transfer, I got it for less than $400 off of GunBroker. The PM series from Kahr are a bit smaller in physical size, but are more expensive. It's a single stack mag, this one is a 7+1, but 8+1's are available for this one.

Ordered the XD. I think that I'll like it. The wife gave me the go ahead so I had to move fast before she had a change of mind!!
The Kahrs are fine looking. I may end up with one "for the wife" before long.

I have the xd 40 with a 4" barrel...darn fine gun imo, the only problem I've had thus far is from the pearson mag extensions I added...not from the gun itself. The extensions don't allow for any wiggle room at the bottom of the grip therefore making it very hard to get the mag to drop because it's pulling against the release....other than that I've had it about 2 months now and after 250+ rounds no problems. I know it's not the 9mm but the XD line itself is awesome

I'm looking forward to getting it in my hands. I handled one . .40 and if fit and pointed well. I was comparing it to a Glock 27 that the store had, and the XD felt better to me. I know that its kinda a "Ford v Chevy" thing. We all be different.

I have a XD .40 in the 5" tactical. The grip angle compared to that of a Glock or M&P is much better to me anyway. I think you will be happy with it.

Haven't got to shoot it yet, just getting familiar with feel and trigger. Hope to get some range time soon. I think that I'm gonna like it.

Finally got to shoot a little. The new XD shoots good and fits me well. Had one hiccup with one of the mags on the first round. After that it did great. Put about 100 rounds through it.
Also picked up a lot of brass!
