Hello. I hope everyone is well. My father and I both got turkeys this spring and are looking for a good taxidermist in the area or at least 1 hour or less travel time if possible. Mine is the 4 Bearded Tom listed on this message board and my fathers is his first. That being said, I want to make sure the quality is good.
We live in Hagerstown, IN, which is close to Richmond, Connersville, New Castle and Greenfield.
Any information and/or recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance...

I highly recommend Steve Harrison - he lives in Centerville, but his shop is down behind Frame's in Liberty. I had him do a tail mount for me last year and it turned out great. I just delived this year's bird to him last Saturday, it will be a little bit of a wait - but well worth it. PM me and i'll give you his contact info.

lpcustomcalls,
Please don't settle for the cheapest! It just kills me to see a nice buck or turkey killed in the last few years and the mount looks like crap. If a high quility taxidermist charges $100 more for a mount, look at it this way.... hopefully you'll have that mount for at least 20 years...that's only $5 bucks a year. There is a chance that a cheaper mount won't last that long. You get what you pay for.

Check out the web site for Black Forrest Taxidermy-Dale Richardson does a GREAT job, as as he`s still mostly unknown, he`s not outlandishly priced.
He`s between Avon and Danville off old US 36.
Tell him Greg Russell sent you.

Pictures do NOT do justice for great taxidermy. If you want to get good work, it starts with you! If your bird gets beat up flopping in the field or gets the tail feathers boogered by mishandling or gets shot up or is missing a bunch of feathers, a taxidermist CANNOT do as good a job as he/she could do if the bird is properly handled and care is taken. Do NOT take someone's word on great work, as their standards for taxidermy WILL be different than yours! You should personally visit the taxidermists you are interested in to see their work in person. Reread Woodmaster's post up above. You WILL pay more for great work than what Billy Joe Bob paid for his bird that was done by the dude down the road for $350. I paid $675 3 years ago for a 3/4 strut gobbling on the roost mount...and it still looks WAY better than 95% of the work I see today. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Cally Morris in MO is the BEST, he charges around $800-900 a bird. You should expect to pay $600 or so for a great turkey mount in IN. Anyone can do a tail mount. Don't base your decision on how well a guy does his tail mount. I do a better tail mount than half of the one's I see done by licensed taxidermists...and I can't mount a turkey!
