Silence

What makes “all” the birds go silent? I took my wife last Friday for a quick morning hunt in Brown Co. We have about 800 ac. that we can run around on and not a Single gobble. We have had lots of gobbling all season till “Black Friday” then not even roost gobble. It was a beautiful morning like all the others we have hunted. I checked and compared all aspects of the weather including barometric pressure. I did not see much of a difference. What, in your opinion, makes “all” the birds on a piece of property go quiet for a day or two.

Maybe I was somewhere within 200 miles. I seem to have that affect on birds! :-)

Do birds go silent with hunting presure? I'm not sure.

I hunted with a veteran or 27 or 28 seasons in Missouri & he couldn't explain it. Sure is frustrating though. Just because they don't gobble doesn't mean they can't be hunted. Stick some decoys on a field edge and get comfy, a ground blind is great for that... call sparringly. Spend the day if necessary

I've found that it seems that the gobblers are more vocal when the state is under an area of High Pressure (as far as weather patterns go). Dunno if that always holds true...but it seems to work. I'm sure that hunting pressure and other factors would disrupt them above any weather factors.
