To those that have met me, no, not that kind of help.
I have been contacted by a wonderful group of young men from the Purdue DU Chapter about putting on a youth waterfowl hunt again. We did this a few years ago, and the new group of students in the chapter want to get involved and leave their mark on the club memories.
Here is where the help part comes in. The DNR started work on the lake that we usually hold these hunts on the spring of 2009 and haven't done any work since last August. All that has been completed is tearing the dam out to alleviate the pressure. Basically we have enough water to have a good watermelon seed spitting contest from one side to the other.
What I am looking for is a place to hold this hunt. I have one location in mind, but will have to get approval. The "perfect" scenario would be private ground, but I am open to all suggestions. Depending on distance and if the boys want to give up both days of their opening weekend, we may need a place to camp to hunt both days. This is planned for the South Zone Youth weekend October 16 and 17, but if a place is available for the North Zone the weekend before we can change it.
Thanks for any and all help.
Rob

I really wish I could help you on this because without a doubt this is a great idea. Do you visit the REFUGE board this might be a good place to post this because I know there are some folks on there who own land. GOOD LUCK.

I haven't been on there in a couple years. I'll have to see if my account is still open.

FOr that matter why not celery bog, that might be in west Lafayette city limits though. Pretty sure it is. When Dad and I hunted with Tim off of McCormick last Christmas we got paid a visit by Mr. Green Jeans; that entire area is getting too populated to try any sort of hunt and not expect complaints.

It's not only inside West Lafayette city limits but is also Purdue property-both of which put it off limits for any type of hunting.

I might be interested in providing a place to hunt, what are the details? It has been 2 seasons since we put this on. We had been hunting a place that is literally one mile from my front door. What we did was put spots for this hunt in as prizes we would give away at our Hunter Ed Camps. This has always been a morning hunt with occasional afternoon goose field hunts. My group sets up all the decoys and blinds, provides transportation across the lake, and the ammunition for the first timers. The boys from the Purdue DU Chapter got hooked up with me and have been doing all the calling and talk with the kids about everything waterfowl whine in the blind. All the kids have to bring is a gun (we have supplied a few of those as well), camo, and a license. This is for kids 15 and younger per the regulations. I figure this year I will put an open sign up thread on here and see what kind of response I get. I just can't take that step until I nail down a location and figure out ht e rest of the details. Since we are looking for other places to have this we have been trying to decide if we should do a two day event or stick with one, where to camp, how to do meals, and I have to find out if the college boys are up for a two day event if we go that direction. If I'm traveling a good distance My guys will head down late Friday night to set up. Having it at home has always allowed me to set up about 3 and be finished to start meeting kids around 5. The DU boys said location is not an issue for them, they just want to be a part of it. I won't complain either, Henderson Sloughs has been a enjoyable trip for me. Thanks for the consideration.

I'll do it, but not sure what kind of ducks you'll kill other than woodies, we normally have tons of them around the propery, not sure you'll be able to decoy them though? I have a couple of places where you might kill some geese on dry land or you could hunt the river in a makeshift blaind. We have a couple of blinds, but one will be dry then. The other might be ok for some wood ducks early and late.

Same place as the youth deer hunt? I'll take a look at it on google earth. Is there a chance for me to get over there and look around next weekend?
Thank you very much.
I will let the guys know to start planning for a two day hunt.
