Please reply as to the type of area/habitat you are most successful taking BUCKS during firearm season, if you would. A side note added if you feel you have more success on does in another type of habitat would also be great to share as well as any info on the fact that your MAIN area type has changed over the years......and why? While often two answers will be accurate. If so, choose the one that fits WHY you chose that area to hunt.Just meant as a thread to share where each of us finds "great hunting" and while you gotta shoot em where you find them, I thought it would be interesting to see if any pattern emerges. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) If I missed an obvious one, not sure If I can ADD one later? Options are set so you can retract/change your vote and locks in 30 days. It may offer options that we might need to check out a bit more thoroughly to both new hunters and us ol' foggies alike. It's probably going to suprise me and not be the one I expect to get the most votes. lol! (and it's on DEER HUNTING....not just the current proposals) ;D Again, this is for your best type of habitat where you are most successful gun hunting bucks with additional posts requested if that has changed and if you have better "luck" in another habitat type for antlerless kills. GOD BLESS..........and a very happy, healthy, safe and prosperous upcoming season TO ALL! Steve

Ill add my own. Ive had best luck on taking bucks in a small lightly wooded area that is bordered on three sides by picked crops and a fourth side directly in contact with a bedding area. Just FYI.......I just got this area BACK to hunt after a three year absence!! ;D ;D ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) Does, Ive shot in the same woods but have better results sitting up where I can shoot INTO the feeding area rather than mostly having shots into the woods itself. Thanks to all sharing info! God Bless Steve

I would have voted, but since it's just about antlers, I'll say that I tend to lean back in between 3 trees that over look a travel route, and hope that a "deer" walks by.

I probably should have left it simply for any deer hunting but thought MAYBE some are finding different areas better for one vs the other and the results be a bit more detailed. hmm
Sorry, Tenring. An OOPS on my part.
God Bless Steve

I hunt mostly around the house- mainly for my glasses!
As far as deer, I usually sit by a heavily traveled trail.

I really can't choose just one.

Almost all my big bucks have been taken in a big picked cornfield. Of the 4 I'm thinking about, 3 were taken after 3 pm., and 1 was taken right at daylight.

Close to doe bedding areas or on trails going in and out of doe bedding areas. Any buck walking around in the open where I hunt will attract a large number of bullets headed his way.

#5 was the closest to what I hunt.
I like the big woods where multiple travel routes exsist.
All of my stands except for one are good for bow or gun. High ground, edges, & pinch points between feeding, watering, & bedding areas. One is for gun season only on a hogback in a jungle of undergrowth with all 5 hogbacks coming togather in a creek bottom within a 70 yard area.

I grew up rabbit hunting and found over the years that I ran into endless numbers of deer (bucks and does), and some really big deer, in some of the thickest nastiest stuff I could possibly toss the beagles into. When I started deer hunting I ended up back in those areas. I usually end up as tight to the edge as I can get. This is also the reason I end up going very high in the trees. I spent several years hunting a woods that was about 5 years out of being logged and ended up 30 to 35 feet in the air. The season after the property changed hands the "new hunters" put a stand in the same tree simply because we had one there. He took a 27 point that made the cover of Indiana Fish and Game and took county record.
