Text for the Day -- Luke 19:45-48 ---------- Then he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling things there; and he said, ‘It is written, “My house shall be a house of prayer”; but you have made it a den of robbers.’ Every day he was teaching in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people kept looking for a way to kill him; but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were spellbound by what they heard.
Devotional ---------- When people violate the sacred, crisis or judgment occurs. Jesus, in this text, is the agent of crisis, judging those who turn the temple into a market place. Of course, crisis creates a response. God, when judging, looks for a repentant response. However, the response is often like that of the religious leaders - moving against Jesus rather than repenting. They would kill him if they had the chance rather than repent. Eventually they did kill him.
Prayer ----------- Help me keep my sensibilities about sacred things, Lord. Amen
