So I'm sitting in the woods talking on my cell phone to a buddy and working a bird. The bird is about 80 yards and isn't budging. He goes quite for a few minutes and all of a sudden he gobbles about 40 yards out. I told my buddy that he was getting close so I got him to gobble and he still couldn't hear him. After a few minutes, the bird came out from behind a dogwood tree that was blocking my view and made his was up to about 20-25 yards. Now he could hear him gobbling over the phone. I quit calling and eventually the bird quit gobbling. I hung up the phone and watched the bird for about 20 more minutes before he decided to make his way back off through the woods. I learned two interesting things on this hunt.... 1.) A lot of times when a bird quits gobbling and you assume he is gone...he is not. This bird stood within 25 yards for 35 minutes and took a total of three steps. Just stood there and looked around. 2.) A bird has to be within 25 yards to hear him gobble over a cell phone.

Turkeys and deer both sure do have all the time in the world. They have a lot more patience than we do.
I got a feeling it wont be your last encounter with that wise old bird...

Have you ever thought that just perhaps the gobbler was on his Bluetooth talking to one of HIS buddies....
"Yeah Earl....this guy is over here talking on his cell phone trying to get me to gobble! Can you believe the nerve??? Not only does he want me to gobble......he's gonna try to kill me afterwards! Some people!"
