After 2 days of hard hunting and having my fair share of humble pie, I finally sealed the deal at 7am on Friday morning. I set up in the spot where I killed my bird last year after seeing a bird strutting there on Wed. mid-morning. Unbeknownst to me, the birds roosted about 300 yards across the huge field and into the next holler. After hearing them gobble their tails off for about 15 minutes, I decided to take a chance and move over that way, as it had been legal shooting for about 15 minutes. Well, the move paid off as 3 birds pitched down into the field about 5 minutes after I sat down. I passed on the first bird at about 60 yards, a little too far of a poke for my gun. The other 2 were out a little farther than that. They made their way over the hill and slipped out of sight. After a few soft yelps and purrs, one came back for some lovin' and found a load of Hevishot #6 on his taste buds! 21 lbs., 11" beard and 1 1/8" (28mm) hooks. My daughters couldn't wait for daddy to get home to get in on the action and a pic....
