me and timex have 2 bows set up for fishing one is an old compound and the other is a 40lb draw baracuda, kids should be able to pull that one back and try there luck. we could if nothing else submerge some coke bottles in the pond and get them use to shooting. aim low or you are definitly going to miss.

We need to determine a winner of the deer mount by accumlative score. I'm open for suggestions, even for just pulling a name out of the hat? Let's hear your opinions on it.
Or we could do something like this, as a form of competition if you want?
1) Big doe and Little Doe contest. --- A prize for the biggest and littlest doe taken during the hunt. (We'll award a separate prize for each from the sponsor prizes. For the accumlative scoring, each deer killed will be 5 points each, buck or doe.
2) Big buck contest --- A prize for the biggest, by weight 5 additional points for the big buck on top of the 5 given above.
3) Nature Observance --- youth hunters will count the number of different animals that they see while hunting. Prizes to be determined from the prize stash. 5 points for each species
4) Crossbow Target Shoot---- Crossbow Target Shoot (after a bit of familiarization and practice) at a target with the closest shot to an X on the target will be the winner. Prizes to be determined.from the prize stash 5 points for hitting the target circle pkus 5 additional for the closest to the X
5) Fishing contest (optional-not sure if we'll have time??)
Prizes to be determined for biggest and most.
Tweeks allowed, please comment.

I'd like to see it whomever shoots the biggest buck gets the mount. In my opinion if my daughter shot a doe and won the mount and some other youth shot a big 8. I'd ask that you mounted his buck.
Then there's always the chance that the person who wins the mount does not harvest a deer. Say they win the X-Bow SHoot, or sees a lot of species of animals. THat person would win the mount.
Now if the free mount is good until the person who wins it harvests an animal they want to mount that is a different story. I'm not sure if that is the case or not.

You could always let each of the kids have a vote on who gets it. If two animals get the same number of votes, then those two kids sit out and the others kids vote again, kindda like survivor.

I would like to see the kid who shoots the biggest buck get it. If no one shoots a big buck then do the points contest.

That's 3 for the big buck. I'll defer to Woody and his wisdom on what and how?

My only thing with that is.. If Tanner shot a doe and won the mount, and Kishla shoots a nice 8 point. I would rather see the buck mounted, than the doe.

I guess we're trying to get the youngsters to NOT put too much into waiting on a big uck to win the contest. I'd rather see them kill something and if it turns out to be a good buck, then that's great. But we want them to enjoy the experience be it buck, doe or nothing? I hope that thy all kill something other than time and not have the pressure of hunting for horns just yet?

My vote is for a drawing of all the succssful hunters.. Over all champ would be nice, but not necessary. I think we have or will get enough nice pirzes that winners in each category will be well satisfied. Keeping track of all the point system can be trying too.

how about having a separate contest between all of the sucessful hunters, an easy contest but fun contest of some sort, like a playoff in basketball.

i will do this if you all like. i have been doing european mounts for Full Rut Taxidermy (timex). so here is another idea on the mount. biggest buck gets the shoulder mount and i will do a european mount on the biggest doe.
