1) Big doe and Little Doe contest.
A prize for the biggest and littlest doe taken during the hunt.
2) Big buck contest
A prize for the biggest - Weight or rack or both?
3) Nature Observance
I've got the game census form from last year that we will give to each youth hunter. The youth hunters then count the number of different animals that they see while hunting. That might keep them just a little more in tune with their surrounding watching for all animals and not just deer.
Prizes to be determined..
4) Crossbow Target Shoot
During the off hours Saturday we will hold a Crossbow Target Shoot (after a bit of familiarization and practice) at a deer target with the closest shot to an X on the target will be the winner. We will have two classes - 1) Youths and 2) Mentors.
Prizes to be determined..
5) Fishing contest
Prizes to be determined for biggest and most.
We welcome any suggestions for these activites or any other activities..

Do you want me to bring my chainsaw for campfire wood? You know us boys just love playing in the fire, burning dogs for a main course, & marshmellows for smores.

Honestly, even with my joking on the pole thread, I would rather have team boys vs team girls on how complete they fill out the wildlife survey. I think some kids are nervous enough and I wouldn't want to add any pressure by offering a prize for "shooting the first deer". That and I wouldn't want a not so great shot taken because of a contest either.
Just my thoughts.

As you may know, I'm going to do a deer mount for the overall high score. We'll need to come up with an cumlative score of all the contest to judge the winner. Of course for this to happen, the youngster will have to kill something - buck or doe or varmint of some sort.

Might also be a good idea to appoint a volunteer to run each contest so that it frees up Woody and the cooks and the guides? I'll want the guides to make sure they are in a good spot, and if they need to relocate, make sure they have it picked out and ready for the next hunt. Might also be agood idea to spread the contests out from Fri. afternoon to mid day Sunday. Last year, some did not stay around for the Sunday PM hunt.

I'd like to still run the crossbow contest if possible...unless someone else knows and shoots crossbows and is willing to do it..

I suspect that some of the crops will be in by then, so maybe we can shoot at some doves?

kish did start bowfishing this year. I do have three bows set up for fishing 2 adults and a youth if we could figure out some kind of contest or just go down to the pond and do a little shooting for the ones that have never done it,might just add a few more bowfishermen. the retaining ponds inside the levee would be better than the river,my boats just not big enough for everybody. If there is enough intrest i can come up with more equipment for thost that would want to use their own bow.and for deertracks I cant wait for kish to start beating me that will be when i know i done a good job.

I dont do any in the wabash. but it is full of them seen news articles from five miles south that showed them every where. I have wanted to try some arial shooting. we do all of our fishing from the white river and a majority of the fish we shoot are asian and that has all happened in the last 5 years until then we never seen them.

There should be some Asians in the levee ponds as well.
