I am looking for any feed back or opinions regarding the HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON 44 cal. HANDY RIFLE. I am thinking of purchasing a 44 cal.for deer hunting and since I will not need it for anything else I wanted to keep it simple and low buck.

No personal experience yet, but I'm getting ready to drop the hammer on the purchase of one for my grandson. Everyone who has one seems to like them a lot. Well made and shoots PCR cartridges about as accurately as they're capable of being fired. My buddies son took a nice 10 pointer with the .44 version last year sporting a Red dot sight. He actually missed with the first shot (buck fever?) and had to reload. The .44 mag with the right bullet is a good deer killer out to 125 yds or so.

The H & R is a well made, no flash or frills redneck Pro-hunter.

I still have an old .58 cal H&R muzzle loader built on the same basic action. It was very accurate and extremely reliable for thirty+ years after I bought it used. Mainspring eventually became fatigued and needs replacement, but aside from that it's still a great gun. Nice crisp trigger, which is a main component of accuracy.
My BIlL and nephwe have a few of the rifled slug versions of the same gun and were extremely pleased with the accuracy and reliability.
No experience with the .44 version, but have heard nothing but praise for the other versions of the gun, and would expect the .44 to rate the same.
Seems to be a very hard choice to beat for the money. Another great American product that competes well against any foreign rival, for about the same dough.

My brother has a Handi-Rifle in .223 that is a shooter. He spent $25 to have a trigger job done, but other than that, it was good to go.

I have both, .44 mag, and .357 mag. They're great firearms for the price.
