I know some information I'd like to get ahold of.
Anyone know of a link or know the person to ask this?
I'd like to know the number of hunters that shot
1. One deer
2. Two deer
3. Three deer
etc, etc for say, the past three seasons in Indiana.
I think it would be interesting to know the percentage of hunters that shoot more than a couple. I could be wrong but I don't think the majority shoot (not say they want to but actuall DO shoot) more than 3 deer a year and of those shooting less, Id like to see percentages of how many shoot less......habitually and on purpose.
Not sure if Im wording this right, and NOT looking for an argument but would like to see the actual numbers of hunters in each catagory of number of deer taken annually.
Anyone know of where I could get this? I'm finding several emails of state people but would like to find the right person rather than firing off emails that already HAVE to be bombarded with such due to the proposals at hand.
Should I get this info, Ill share with others who also feel it might be fuel for our thoughts.
God Bless
Steve
[Here is a portion of something I copied from a post on another forum in July of 2008:]
"While the bonus antlerless deer bag limits are set high, very few hunters (less than 8%) take more than two deer in a season, this includes all license types (archery, extra archery, firearms, muzzleloader, military refuge, and bonus antlerless). Current statistics show the following deer harvest per hunter ratio:
Deer harvest/hunter % of hunters
0.......48.8
1.......30.4
2.......12.8
3.......4.8
4.......2.0
5.......0.8
6.......0.2
7.......0.1
8+......0.0006
Please be assured that we will continue to manage the State’s deer population in the most responsible manner possible as we rely on the revenue generated from license sales to fund a majority of wildlife initiatives."
[Also, please note that about half of the hunters fail to get a single deer.]
