From the article: "Proposed is the key word. But the rule changes for 2011 are as good as done. They have the approval of the commission, the DNR, and most importantly, deer hunting organizations that represent most of the state's hunters."Fellas, we are being railroaded!

I think Skip is writing what he is told. Whatever happened to real investigative journalists? I want these groups numbers made public, and I think the DNR should be presented with actual numbers for and against regarding issues these "stakeholders" are involved with. This is ridiculous that they top echelon members just have to say their group either approves or disapproves of any given change without providing any membership numbers or actual yay or nay votes by their members. This is the biggets thing we need to get changed whether we win or lose this fight. We have to pull their teeth now before they stick it to us again in the future!!!!

I truely hate to say this but it may be time to find a " Lawyer" that is a hunter and file an injunction aginst the DNR over this to bring it to the public eye with more than these bogous press realeases.

File an injunction then everyone stick to their guns and just stay home for one season, that's all it will take and we will see if these groups do in fact represent the majority of deer hunters. The problem is there would be so few willing to give it up for one year in hopes of making the DNR eat crow and they {the DNR} know it. Sad state of affairs indeed. In fact I've seen several in here state they would be out there no matter what. That's why they are able to stick this crap up our arse, people just shrug and go on like before.

Urban season extended until Jan 3 of the next year??? Skip's not a very good reporter and his report here is greatly misleading the public.

I've sent two e-mails in the past few days to the Anderson Herald Bulletin with no response. You would think that since Madison County is so overrun with deer, bonus county of 8, these proposals would be news worthy to the readers that hunt.

Unless hunting urban deer. The DNR, or oganizations that represent the states deer hunters can not force anybody to buy antlerless tags and and actually kill does. Whether I tag it with my bow, or muzzle loader, my one and only buck will have to do. I have always liked fried rabbit and my beagles in the past have gotten fat and out of shape during deer season. Rabbit summer sausage anyone???

Just sent Skip a email...can't any reporter get it right and unbiased? I think the editor has the last say on what is actually published. Since Gannet took over the Indy paper, we haven't read any real reporting in it.

Here's how to 'Skip' over the biased coverage. Create your own!
Make a cool, but official, looking letterhead that says something like 'Hoosiers for Safe Highways' and on it write a press release saying something to the effect that "shortening the deer hunting season means less deer harvested and more Hooiser drivers will collide with deer. A small minority of hunters is trying to convince the IDNR to grow more deer with very large antlers that pose a deadly threat to drivers of cars that hit them. These hunters, who have the ear of the IDNR, claim to represent the majority of Indiana's deer hunters and are trying to push their agenda at the expense of the majority who actually oppose that agenda."
I am willing to bet real money that there are newspapers in Indiana who will print a press release like that verbatim. ;D

Exactly how does reducing the time afield for the most productive herd reduction tool reduce herd numbers? That's grade A crapola.Five year trial? Where have I heard that before, and who said it? The OBR, which did absolutely nothing, was supposed to be a five year trial. So why did they continue something that did nothing? Why are the so called "stakeholders" so keen to get guns out of the woods when they know there's no way their pitiful little sticks and strings will never be able up the difference in the harvest?
None of those orgs represent me, and they never will after the shabby tricks they've pulled the last few rules proposal sessions just to further their agenda of tropyism and antler fantasies.
