There are sevearl within 10 -20 minutes from where I hunt and most are open later than alot of the ones u guys have posted but it still depends on the day and time, I dont really like the telecheck idea call me crazy if u guys want but I think thats just a easier way for poachers to kill what they want, its bad enough u can rarely get someone at the check staion to come out and look at what u got anyway ! I remember when I first started huntin over 15 yrs ago there would always be a person to come out and look at the deer heck they even put the metal tag on for u ! I think the check station should be required to place the tag on for u so they would have to llok atleast whether u have a antlered or antlerless !!! BUT just like the rest of the rule changes it will never be what I want LOL ! I think to that with the new rules change if it all passes like they say there will be more poached deer, some unethical bone head will shoot a buck during the 2 day october antlerless witha firearm and then tag it as a bow kill and no one will proly ever find out any different cuz NO ONE comes to inspect ur deer at the check station ! Anywaythat my opinion and opinions are like a-holes every one has one and they all stink LMAO

My usual check station is less than 1 mile from me. They close at 9PM, which can be a big hassle in early October when it is daylight until 8PM and you shoot a deer right before nightfall. By the time I wait for the deer to expire, find it, field dress it, and get it loaded in a vehicle, it's too late to make it to that check station. Same thing for Sunday, since they are closed. In those two instances, I have another check station about 5 miles from me that is open 24 hours a day.
The deer processor is 5 miles from me, and I have his number in my cell phone contacts. If I get a deer late in the evening in early archery, I call ahead to make sure he can meet me, sometimes as late as 10PM, by the time I get it out and checked in. That way, it gets in the cooler immediately.

Almost the same here.If the Springville store(around 3 miles) is closed I usually go to the Johnny's Junction or Holts(maybe 8 or 9 miles)(if I'm hunting at my sisters or down in Greene county). If I'm in the Leesville or Norman area I'll stop at Farmers market(16-18 miles) on 50 & 446 on the way home.My processors is about 1/2 mile from here and he'll save me a space or two.

There are plenty around where I hunt but like others they close early and arent open on Sunday. There use to be a place called Pleasant Deer Processing in Pleasant. He was a check and a deer processor and he would be there late. YOu would think in Switzerland/Jefferson Co someone would stay open late.

North of Pleasant @ Cross Plains, Best Buy Grocery, open every night except Sunday until 9:00PM. Owner told me last year that during the 3 week ends of gun season, his cash register is ringing constantly, and during the week, business is up around 25 %. It's like Christmas is to the department stores. He rakes it in, but I digress, maybe only one for year for that. Maybe Joe will feel sorry for him and help him out financially on his way down to his 1000 acres.

In Kentucky my deer check station is in my pocket aka my cell phone.
In Illinois it is 75 miles back to computer to check in my deer online.
In Indiana it is a stopover on the way home or to the processors at Boonville IN at American Taxidermy.

I honestly feel that several early season deer never get checked in not so much for unethical reasons but do to the heat and spoilage of their kill. Telcheck would greatly help this situation. If a hunter shoots a deer in early archery season on a Saturday evening and doesn't recover it until late. There's a very good chances he will have a spoiled deer by the time he finds an open check station on Sunday. When it's 75 degrees dead meat don't last very long in this kind of heat. Very few have walk in coolers, or the capability to store a field dressed deer in until one opens up.
I'm afraid heat and critters that like to bite humans and make them itch and sick could make an early antlerless firearms season fail. There's nothing like swatting skeeters and pulling ticks off of yourself while sitting in your tree stand and did I mention sweating like politician hooked to a lie detector machine.

Since it was late & I knew the Check stations were closed. I then took my harvested Buck up to the nearest check station which was CLOSED on Mondays! Proceeded to take it to another one which was also CLOSED! I ended up driving 50 miles to find an OPEN check station. After I checked the Deer in I made a VERY ANGERY call to the INDR and told them of my problem finding a check station (within 24 hours). Also called my State Senator's office & filed a complaint. Don't know if this resulted in extending the check-in time to 48 hours but you have it now. Telechecking a Deer in is MUCH BETTER and easier. If the IDNR is going to make any changes in their Deer Season Telechecking should be included!

Yep, Springville Store is my first choice, then Johnny Junxions is my second pick. Obviously we both use the same processor, too. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Since Ray lives right next door to his shop, I just call ahead when I'm en route with a deer, so he'll be prepared to throw it in the cooler pronto. I bring in a crap load of deer to him annually, so like you, he'll let me drop one off even if he is at capacity. Last year in late October, I even hit a small buck with my Jeep just past your house at the big red barn, and called Ray to make sure I could bring it in after the police issued the road kill tag. I tried to beg him to accept it with the guts intact, as I didn't want to field dress it in front of a house along the highway, but he wanted no part of it. I bet those residents had a nice surprise the next day when they found the gut pile next to their mailbox. ;D

I have one about 1/4 mile from the house, also have a couple on the way from some hunting spots. When I'm hunting in Sullivan county the check station is at the end of dragging the deer as my brother-in-laws shop is a check station.
