Here's a scenario: In Oct. 2011 during the 2-day Doe-only hunt, I'm carrying a shotgun when a very nice buck walks past my tree. To my dismay, I can only watch him walk away.
Hmm-m-m.... the more I think about it, I might be bow hunting that week-end.
I just don't see any more does being harvested vs. the old rules. 1. Bowhunters will harvest the normal number of does they desire regardless of gun seasons. 2. 2 out of 3 Joe Gunners of the Orange Army are not going to get excited about an Oct. Doe-only hunt, and many will just blow it off. 3. Less time during gun seasons, especially ML, means less opportunity; thus, less does. 4. A few does will get harvested during the late Doe-only gun season, but not as many as they hope for because: a. It's the holidays... people are traveling b. By then, most hunters will already have all the does they want. c. Most hunters out there will be archers trying to get their buck AND they will have to wear blaze orange. d. And lastly, but most important, the does are cagey and hard to find this time of year. They've been pressured, and no longer follow their normal patterns.
Really, the only viable way that I can imagine to guarantee a larger harvest of does is to make it CHEAP and to add an incentive... such as a second buck. But this is not a part of the new proposals! Don't make no sense

When I called the CO about this last year, he said you cannot carry both a gun and a bow in the woods at the same time for deer. Unless that gun is your personal carry gun.

just reviewed the regs. My understanding is that it is not legal to carry a firearm, other than a pistol for protection, while archery hunting for deer. However, I found no rules against carrying both a shotgun and bow while hunting for turkeys. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Go to the ask the conservation office link that is in my post above and ask a conservation office. It's on this site to ask.

Law changed last year or two. Both can now be carried when they are both legal.

Make sure it is legal to do so first before posting that answer on here moderator!! Just so you know, I'm a moderator on a hunting forum, not a conservation officer, so anything that gets posted here, by any member or moderator should be researched by yourself to ensure legality. I'm not sure where I read that this rule had been changed, maybe in a dream. It is illegal to carry anything but a bow during archery season, unless you have a PPP and are carrying a handgun for personal protection. I'm sure if this new antlerless season comes to fruition, they will have to hammer out the details regarding things like this. huntingindiana.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=coanswers&action=display&thread=31403

I say more bucks will die that weekend than does, they are opening up a big can of worms. Not to mention screwing up early bow season! What a joke.
