Guys,
The shorten of gun season and moving it just didn't happen over night. This idea has been promoted by the IDHA and IBA for a couple years now.
From time to time Id see it mentioned on another sites by one of the big wigs and then post a smiley face like they had some inside info. If you follow what the've done to help out the DNR you can understand how all this got promoted and passed.
I for one will do all I can to stop this rule change but in reality I feel it will all be for nothing. Good ol' boy politics have been around longer than me and you and it's hard to break the chain of "I've scratched your back now you scratch mine".
Hopefully I'm wrong and hunters will show up by the hundreds at these meetings and demand changes to the proposed rules. h.h.

People in general don't like change. Do too much at once and wammo. and all you get is a few whiners and everyone else just moves on. " The IDHA president on HH.. "I'd be standing up for all of the above Don, 1.Require MANDATORY Hunter Ed for every hunter. 2. start gun season the first Saturday after November 18. 3. A shorter gun season by one week each in general gun and muzzleloader. that would be my preference 1-3." Now we are saddled with it...dosesn't matter that the overwhelming majority of the deer hunters responding in the online survey says to leave the gun and muzzleloaders season alone...

Too much all at once. Now it is [glow=red,2,300] WAMMO[/glow] time. And people wonder why we were so cynical of the "stakeholders" and the IDNR getting their heads together. None of us peasant deer hunter were invited.. BUT they will hear from us NOW!

These proposed rule changes to me is clearly the next step after the OBR to grow bigger antler deer in this state and very little to with a balance herd. Post by several who are leading the way for these new rules in the past never mention that shortening and moving firearms would balance the herd. I do recall hearing, "growing larger antlered bucks","$%^### orange army trespassing shooting everything that moves", " Being like Illinois" as being reasons. Now they are grabbing the microphone and solemnly swearing it's all for the betterment of our states over populated deer herd that is in dire need of thinning to maintain it's health. I'm sure IF these rules make law and they are still not happy, we will be looking at proposed antler restriction laws and an 1/2 hour gun season and owning a X bow is a hanging offense in 5 years.
Actually I just took a little trip down memory lane and visited another Indiana deer hunting web site and went back to the year 2009 and read a thread started "Should we modify Indiana's deer season" Which clearly states several of those who are in favor of these rules true feelings about shortening and moving firearms season. Herd structure HAHAHAHAHAHA

When Ky. considered expansion of the crossbow season a few years ago, Joe Bacon supported an end run around the normal mode of making changes by a few guys that had legislators in their hip pocket. With these rules totally different than what the majority of hunter input consensus was, IF anyone has any pull with any legislator, it would be time to get them involved in nipping this in the bud.

IMO, the best chance at swinging this thing in the opposite direction will be to enlist the help of the thousands of small business owners who's livilihood will be affected by decreased traffic through deer country due to drastically shortened gun seasons.

You make a good point. Shortening the gun season ( and sticking it in a holiday week) is going to keep a lot hunters home who would otherwise spend money in many communities. I guess the DNR figures they'll make up the revenue when hunters flock into the state to kill does during the October 2 day season or during the Xmas season............. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Work the legislators that have small business in their distrct that you know will be effected. Heck the Gov will also not be for less commerce.

I just don't get this Joe Bacon's reasoning. It's like he might be somewhat "power hungry". I know he got mad at me when I brought up the legalization of PCR's, when I lived in Evansville. That being said & with the help of other fine sportsmen, we got PCR's legal in Indiana.
