I took copies of the Deer Proposal Summary aorund to the local places.
I hit the Newburgh Walmart, the Evansville Walmart, Dick's, Gander Mountain, Strictly Shooting, Rajos and Buck and Jakes in Boonville. No one had a clue that this was happening except at Buck and Jakes. Eric Stamps (Warrick County CO) gave them 'some' information.
I went over it with them and the young man that I think worked in the archery department said," Good. It is about time Indiana started managing for big bucks". I told him that this was not supposed to be about "managing for big bucks", but a herd reduction. He said," You're kiding. Looks like buck management to me".
That will be the hard part as these folks thinks this is buck management and will give input accordingly.

I like the proposals and I'm not the only one Spcckle, I like the one allowing youth to take either sex during their season. It should have been in place since the beginning. Tell you the truth though, I was shocked to see it included in these rules. It is the only rule that is a + for the taking of a buck deer with a firearm.

Tell you the truth though, I was shocked to see it included in these rules. It is the only rule proposed that doesn't condone the taking of a buck deer with a firearm. The youth either sex is not part of this package. That has already been signed, sealed and dellivered for this season. Youths can take either sex this year. That is different than this proposal: That means that they can take multiple deer up to their county limit and not just one as they have been required to in the past. Glad to see that they are treating the kids as equals.

Ive told several people and none of them knew of this proposal.
After tomorrow anyone who is against these changes should contact as many people as possible.
70% of hunters who took the survey didn't want the gun season reduced or moved. Too me that is a majority and we need to get all those people to contact the appropriate people and let their voice be heard. The more of the majority that knows of these proposed changes the less likely these changes will be made. h.h.

I am supprised that Stan, at RAJO'S, didn't know about this Deer Proposal thing for 2011. He is a member, I believe.

I am not in favor of these proposals because of the shortening of shotgun and muzzleloader seasons. There are a lot of good ideas in this very extensive package but in my mind they are all negated by attemting to shortne shotgun and muzzleloader seasons by 7 days each. The people involved in creating these proposals put a lot of work into it and I am sure have good intentions but I believe implementing these rules as they are written will result in less deer being taken overall, not more.
