What do you think? Will the proposed new rules lead to increased poaching?
I know that I will act within the law, but I think that a lot of people will possibly stick with the "season"length that they have been accustomed to having.

I would bet that there will be deer checked in under archery licenses that were shot with a firearm during the early antlerless season just simply becuz the firearms and muzzleloader seasons will be shortened. Well not just becuz the season is shortened some ppl out there will poach an animal in any means necessary so giving them a firearm two days in early archery season I would bet there will be more poaching. IMO only though lol

Why poach heck we can shoot every deer in the woods now!!! If you mean bucks the poachers are already doing it and the very same ones will still be doing it .I do not think that will change much at all.

Since you can be in possession of a firearm and archery equipment at the same time there may be a few gun shot bucks dring the antlerless season.

I believe that the shortened season is going to cause a lot of guys to "shoot the first buck they see" then continue the days hunt looking for something "better". My crystal ball says that there will lots more "5 shot strings" too. The shortened season will increase the pressure on the deer but also on the hunter trying to fill that buck tag. This sounds a lot like the old days back in the late 70's.

I remember the reports out of Attebury after they had their first hunt, scouts went out in several areas and found many a buck deer under brush piles. Shoot one, go look for a better one, shoot it, keep trying, and take the biggest one home. Now that was the good old days.

I would think that you will not be allowed to carry both like it is now? There was a new rule put in place about a year ago that let's you carry your archery equipment during the firearms season. I would assume that would also be true dring the special seasons. Antlerless is firearms only and the regular archery season is also in at that time. Take your gun and bow shoot the does with your gun and the bucks with your bow but don't mix them up.

Poaching is going to happen irregardless and has nothing to do with "shortened seasons" or "telecheck".

If the changes go thru there will be alot of rule bending to fill a tag in short order.

They'll probably be a lot of bad elbows and shoulders as new crossbow users looking to extend their hunting opportunities. I might just take advantage of my bad elbow. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Poachers are poachers and will always be poachers reguardless of rule changes. And no I dont think the honest hunter is going to go to the dark side over the shortening of seasons.

I did this last fall. Carried my 11-87 for turkeys and Hoyt for deer. Anyone else using archery eqpt and firearms at the same time?
On the subject: Poaching might actually decrease. With a shorter firearms season, CO's might be available more days for enforcement rather than crowd control for the masses.

However, there are some borderline folks that can be pushed over the line if they percieve a rule as too restrictive.. They will attempt to justify in their own minds that this isn't right and will commit a game crime. Yes, I believe that any new game regulation that restricts hunters will breed a few more poachers. How many? Who knows..

Also if the economic conditions get to where things get rather tight, for some folks, they might poach for need of the meat.
