Could be wrong....but I think it was a guy by the name of Friend that started the "kill more does" thing wasn't it???
If that is correct, why not make Friend your friend and get him to stop this season structure thing before it gets started? I doubt very seriously that he'll want less deer hunting if he wants more deer killed.
I hate law makers getting envolved with game decisions more than anyone, but the Stakeholders haven't played fair....and I doubt that Mr. Friend has many of them on his Christmas card list....so he could be an ally on this. Be like Delaney, might as well use all your resources at your disposal.

Friend ( and friend of the pick and shoot places ) has already bought into it.
I'm guessing, but I would say that the IDNR and NRC kept him abreast of the process.......results.....proposals...etc..

Friend ( and friend of the pick and shoot places ) has already bought into it. I'm guessing, but I would say that the IDNR and NRC kept him abreast of the process.......results.....proposals...etc.. ....Yes he has ... (from the pro camp) "This is a perfect example of what I have been encouraging you all to do.......and proof that the Legislator (Bill Friend) that got this whole train moving for new proposals is ON BOARD with what is happening.......and is supportive of these new proposals.
I sent Bill a letter a few days ago, and he was kind enough to send a letter back to my home on his thoughts. I outlined the good logic that was behind the new proposals and what was to be expected of the "loud backlash" from those that simply just wanted to keep old worn out deer regulations the same......which was only perpetuating a growing deer herd in this state. I wanted to let him know...........due to him getting the ball rolling...........some REALLY neat stuff got churned out.
This is the letter I just recieved in the mail yesterday"........"Pretty neat...........and confirmation that the guy that got this legislative movement going that also got the IDNR "going".......approves of the DNR proposals, and is putting it in writing.
I find it also interesting that the #1 search on my site this week was to find Bill Friend's link that is posted up on my site so he can receive some applauding feedback for his role in the initial inertia for these outcoming new proposals from the DNR.
I know there are some "grumpy people" out there and are trying to claim it to "The Trophy Hunters Got Their Way!!".........when that is simply NOT the case. I kinda liken it to this...........A person gets a car and consults those on how to improve the situation with gas mileage on his car. He is told to pump up the tires, change the air filter, get some new plugs..........and walla'......you get better gas mileage. He goes and tells his friends what he is about to do to get better mileage...............and gets ATTACKED, CALLED A LIAR, and accused of wanting to do nothing more to his car than to make it faster, leave the stop light quicker, and get a better E.T. at the 1/4 mile race track.
He sits their stunned that no matter what he says to some about only wanting better mileage..........he gets attacked for having some "alterior/evil plot" about hot-rodding his car.
Will he get better gas mileage??? YOU BET!! Will his car be quicker and faster?? YOU BET!! Will he achieve what he is wanting to do with his car even as those accuse him of wanting to do something else? YOU BETCHA!!
This is the EXACT same thing that is happening today with these proposals............those that don't want others to believe that the intent is for us to be more effective and efficient in what we need to address in anterless harvest...........they only want others to believe that the system is somehow now "hot-rodded" by special interests.
Those that put this together know they did such for good reason, had good intentions, put in place what they know will work with data to support it, and have everything in place to get out of this "tune-up" what they expect..............and people like myself, and legislators like Bill Friend are standing by them.
I encourage you all to do the same...........we all win in the end...........even the mud slingers know it.
Food for thought........."

How would shortening the periods during which the majority of the deer are killed further reduce their numbers? That's like saying that bow hunting can solve the population problem all by itself, it makes no mathematical sense.

If the deer herd is nearly out of control NOW, a couple of trial years of LESS antlerless harvest could be really hard to get it back. It's a lot easier to keep it in control with tweeks and small changes obce you have the data for what ever season structure you already use. I believe the DNR has not planned this out well.

I talked with rep Friends office this morning and they said he does not necessarily support the ODNR proposal but he does support their stated goal to reduce the herd. I would suggest any call and let him know whether you support or don't support the changes.

IDHA, etc.) I'd bet money he won't support less days afield if enough people contact him about exactly that.

I think you're barking up the wrong tree Deerman. I think greghopper posted that from another site. Not positive, but that's what I think.

get past the conspiracy theory and do something about it, placing blame isn't going to solve your problems for sure
