Any of you folks had the chance to try these new shells? "They" claim that the knock-down is awesome. Before I drop $30 an a box, I thought I'd get some input?
Thanks

From what I've heard $30 is too much. I think it's $20-25?
Anyway, I know of several guys that have come into Wal-Mart that used those shells last year and loved them. On the forums people have really seemed to like them.
I also know of one pheasant hunter who has 9 left from his box after killing his turkey cleanly with one shot last year. I imagine he'll have 8 left after this season! (the bum)
Unfortunately, I have no first hand knowledge to give you. I won't be buying new turkey shells for a good while.
Matt

I checked Winchester's website and they do not have a listing for 10 ga. in this product line. 12 ga. only.

Hey Quackhead, Me and my dad shot it a few weeks ago. It was $30 for 3.5" 6 shot. Dad shot 3" 6 shot for $24 a box. From what we saw it didn't pattern as good as there regular supreme turkey loads. The pattern was more than exceptible(sp) but not worth the money in my opinion. we shot out to 40 yrds. and We'll stick to regular supreme turkey loads. Better patterns for us and nice at under $10 a box. DA Kid

If you`ve shot or hunted much at all, you already understand that different guns like different loads, even shotguns. Then throw another variable in, (your turkey choke), and it makes it even more dicey. I can`t speak to the kid in the earlier post who didn`t like them, but I`ll tell you about my experience with them. My buddy and I tried them just before last turkey season here in Indiana. My nephew recommended them, he tried them, and loved them. I had just gotten a new Browning BPS, NWTF in .12 ga, and wanted to try them out. Now understand, I`ve never even tried them through my XXX-Full Comp-N-Choke, I shot them through the X-Full turkey choke that came with the shotgun, and they were AWESOME! We were shooting at the Shoot-N-See full size turkey head and neck targets. At 20 yards, you couldn`t even begin to see how many pellets were in the kill zone, the target was just riddled. We shot again at 30 yards, then again at 40. At 40 yards, I was still putting 39 pellets in the kill zone. I`ve never had anything else even come close to that. It just so happened that my buddy and I were on a guided turkey hunt the last weekend of season last year, we killed a double. The shots were at a distance of approximately 25 to 28 yards, for me and my buddy respectively, and both birds dropped like somebody pulled the ground out from under them. My bird never flapped a wing, and the guide said it was the first time he`d ever seen a turkey killed and not flop once. They`re pricey, you bet, but as far as I`m concerned, I won`t hunt without them again. You should give them a try.

FYI. From a post @ www.nwtf.orgwww.nwtf.org/message_board/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=shotguns&Number=232437&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=5&vc=1Just finished cutting open a bunch of shells and weighing out shot. When I get a free hour in the next day I will post this in a more user friendly format. I took a Winchester Supreme High Vel. lead #6 (2 0z) 3.5 inch Winchester XR #6 (2 Oz.) 3.5 inch Rem Hevishot #6 (1.75 Oz.) 3.5 inch Hevi 13 #6 (1.625 Oz.) 3 inch Federal Heavyweight #6 (1.875 oz) 3.5 inch I took these shells and weighed them out to see what the real deal was on pellet data. Win lead #6 (advertised 2 ounce) = (actual wt 2 ounces) calculated 226 pellets per ounce and .1250 grams per pellet (200 pellet average) Win XR (advertised 2 oz) = (actual wt 1.99 ounces) calculated 226 pellets per ounce and .1250 grams per pellet (200 pellet average) YES, I weighed the lead and XR shot three times and on my scientifically calibrated laboratory scale they wound up being the same!!!! Rem Hevishot (advertised 1.75 oz.) = (actual wt. 1.73 oz. with plastic beads/ 1.69 oz of actual shot) calculated 236 pellets per ounce and .1213 grams per pellet (200 pellet average) Yes, I weighed these out three times also. I noticed this hevishot was on average smaller in size than other #6 pellets. Hevi 13 (advertised wt. 1.625 oz) = (actual wt 1.68 oz with beads/ 1.65 oz of actual shot) calculated 189 pellets per oz and .1518 grams per pellet. This shot was "relatively" uniform in size and shape. Fed HvyWt. (advertised 1.875 oz) = (actual 1.93 oz with beads/ 1.877 oz of actual shot) calculated 158 pellets per ounce and .1789 grams per pellet. also lead #7.5 shot was 363 pellets per oz and .0780 grams per pellet. I want to use this to calculate the % heavier than lead. Win XR is the same as lead. Hevishot was unable to be correctly calculated else it was lighter than lead. Hevi 13 was 19.6% to 21.4 % heavier than lead (this was due to slightly varying sizes of shot.) Fed Hvy Wt. was 43% heavier than lead This was almost 20 dollars in shells cut up in the quest for knowledge and the service of fellow turkey hunters.

Any way you cut it, (lol), I stand by my experience with Winchester Xtended Range Hi-Density turkey loads. I hear everyone going on about Rhino choke tubes and the Nitro loads, but from what I read in the dream pattern thread, the Winchester loads blew the others away. One guy said with his Rhino choke and the Nitro shells he put 29 pellets in the kill zone at 40 yards, then dropped off to only 15 in the kill zone at 45 yards. I only patterned out to 40 last season, but put 39 in the kill zone from 40 yards. 10 more pellets in the kill zone, and that using the X-Full turkey choke that came with my BPS. Never even tried them through my Comp-N-Choke XXX-Full choke. I`ll pattern out to 45 or 50 this weekend and let you know pellet count.
You guys go ahead with whatever loads and chokes you want, but I love the Winchester Xtended Range turkey loads, and am beginning to think the choke doesn`t even matter that much.
