If you all are applying for parks hunts be sure that your read this page. Ther are some disqualifications for multiple entries.
Considerations for Applying for State Park Deer Reductions
**To avoid disqualification, please read and understand this entire page before proceeding**
Deer reductions in Indiana State Parks are different than most DNR special hunts. Deer reductions are carried out exclusively to achieve an ecological objective; to ensure balanced and healthy natural communities for all flora and fauna within park boundaries. Whereas most other special hunts are offered for recreation, these reductions are a necessary management tool that reduces or maintains damaging state park deer populations. Please help us manage your state parks by keeping population control in mind while participating in deer reductions and hunt accordingly. If successfully drawn, the parks depend on your effort to be present and take any safe and ethical shot that presents itself, regardless of size or sex, within the bag limit.
Applicants must be Indiana residents (or Indiana Lifetime License holders), 18 years of age by November 15, 2010. Though participants won't use them, at least one valid Indiana deer license is required to apply. Apprentice licenses are not applicable. If successfully drawn, you will be asked to present a valid photo ID upon checking-in the morning of your hunt period.
Applicants can apply by themselves or with up to two buddies. There is no preference in the draw based on whether it is an application with buddies or not. You must must apply with your buddies information on your application in order for them to participate.
Though any Primary applicant can include up to two secondary applicants (buddies) for each of the 2-day hunt periods, no individual name can appear on more than one application for any one of the two 2-day hunt periods, regardless of primary or secondary status. For example, if Joe is the primary applicant and he puts Chris and John as his secondaries (buddies), Chris, John and Joe are done applying for that hunt period - none of their names can appear on any other application for that particular 2-day hunt period without being disqualified. They can apply for the other hunt period, but if successfully drawn for one, their odds are very low of being drawn for the other.
Only one park is to be selected for any one 2-day hunt period. If any name comes up twice for any one 2-day hunt period in the draw, all applications with that name are disqualified.
It is critical that thorough and valid contact information (mailing address, e-mail, telephone) be included on the application where asked, for both primary and secondary applicants. If successfully drawn, key information regarding the reductions may be sent to you using this contact information.
Parks where firearms are used will draw first from the pool of hunters who have a valid Hunter Education Certificate. Parks designated for archery require an International Bowhunter or Hunter Education Certificate to apply. Please have individual Hunter Education Certification numbers for each applicant (both primary and secondary) ready as they will be required on the application. If you have lost your HEC card, you can request a new one by visiting www.in.gov/dnr/lawenfor/4812.htm
All individuals on a single application must have a valid Hunter Education Certificate for that application to be eligible for first draw.
If successfully drawn, you may harvest three deer, only one of which can be antlered. Deer taken in these reductions are in addition to all other bag limits.
Ground blinds and penetrating treestands and/or steps are prohibited.
On archery properties, bow and arrows are to only be shot from elevated treestands. Exceptions may be available for hunters with disabilities that have adequate documentation such as a DNR disabled hunter permit.
Once an application is submitted, no changes can be made - please be certain to double check that all information is complete and accurate. Applications with missing or inaccurate information may be disqualified. You must retain your application confirmation that will be e-mailed to you upon successful completion of your application.
Draw notifications will be available online only. You can check the status of your draw after September 3 at www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/.
