Last year 2009 I saw less deer than previous years. ALL the other hunters I talked to told me the same thing and some of them didn't kill any deer. I made it a point to ask every check station i visited how many deer they checked in compared to last year which would be 2008 and all of them said they were down and one told me they were down over 150 from the previous year. The park hunt i attended was also down on deer harvested.
From the info I collected the deer harvest was down most everywhere in the state and i figured we would be way down on deer harvest numbers, but when the numbers came out we supposedly killed more deer than any time in the history of Indiana deer hunting. I found this very hard to believe from what check stations and hunters had told me in my area. Many of the members on this board were saying the same thing, they weren't see or killing a lot of deer either.
Now to my point, with these new deer hunting proposals the IDNR is coming out with would it have been harder to sell them to the public if we had killed less deer in 2009 than 2008?

While I hope you are incorrect in what you are hinting at ...... I would have to agree with parts of what you said.
Right up until the second the numbers were released I would have bet that kill numbers would be way down. I know I personally saw less deer .... and so did everyone else I personally spoke to.

h.h. All I can say that it looks like the IDNR just simply lied about Deer numbers. After all they are selling Deer Tags and thus wouldn't say anything negative that would jeopardize the loss of money from tag sells. I have a friend who owns land in Gibson & Pike Counties, Indiana, and he said he has seen less & less Deer for the past several seasons. Another Pike County land owner said the same thing.

It's going to take a conspiracy to develop and promote a lie like that. Given that there is no direct benefit to the conspirators and tons of risk (damage to reputation, loss of job, etc.) it makes no sense for anyone other than a lover of fiction to believe a story like that. ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)
