I'm kind of curious...
Will you participate in the antlerless deer hunts?
Yes, in the October hunt only
Yes, in the Christmas hunt only
Yes, in both hunts
No, I’ll stay home

I voted no.
I know a lot more about the deer herd in my area than the IDNR, the NRC, the IBA, the IDHA the ISR combined. I'm going to have a sign made up stating - Racktrackers Doe Refuge.
IF my neighbors kill off a bunch of does come the rut the surviving does will all be on my place.... legal bait.

I'm in for just the October one AS LONG AS it doesn't cost me any extra; as in, it falls under a tag I'm already going to buy (bow, gun, ML)...
I COULD do a day or 2 of the Christmas season, IF IT HAPPENS to be warm (highs in the 50's), and AS LONG AS it also falls under a tag I'm already going to be buying... Though, on the other hand, I say that now, but I'll probably be pretty burnt out by then, and will probably just hang out with the family...

How much extra will it cost someone [gas money] to participate in the short 2 day hunt in October if they live a distance from their favorite hunting grounds? Fellas [and gals], this has to be entered into "your" budget process as well as possible license additions and increase in same.

Very simple, no. Ive went from seeing 15 - 20 doe a day 10 years ago to usually 1 - 5 a day now. This is in southwest Allen county. This area is very high pressured deer hunting.

Woody I cannot vote as I don't know right now due to undisclosed license structure / fees. If licenses are setup favorably then I may.

I will probably hunt the October hunt if I have the license already simply because With my failing eyes and inability to handle cold very well it will be a good way to get meat in the freezer. That is over a year away tho. I'm sure my position may likely change?

If they shorten other seasons, I'll hunt the new seasons, assuming I have not shot all the deer I want yet. I won't shoot more deer simply because there is an open season.

I voted no for 2 reasons:
1- I already pass up several does a year right now with a bow and a gun. I don't need a dedicated season to kill a doe.
2- The reason I pass up several a year is I don't want to pay the $ for tags.
If they change the fee/structure I would reconsider my decision.

I think a REALLY good way to get people to do the doe seasons would be if there wasn't another tag for that season, and if you could bag up to maybe 2 does without any extra tag fees... Heck, I could even sit out in the cold if I wasn't paying the extra tag money in HOPES that I see something, and to put more meat in the freezer... Mike

I would have never hunted an Oct. Season because I am out with my crossbow looking for a buck. I most likely would have gotten out during the Dec. Season if they hadn't shortened the other seasons.

I think that the IDNR could have been way ahead of the game if they left the regular seasons alone and had a 9 day or a seperate two weekend season in October and the Christmas break and made all tags a VERY nominal fee. I think all hunters would jump to help out then. They ask for our help and then say, " BTW, we are reducing your buck hunting days". NOT good. High tag prices and killing more deer do not go hand in hand.. never mind processing fees.

Without changes in the licensing structure when all this comes in I won't be deer hunting at all in this state, I may well not in any case. It's an easier choice for me because of my situation in KY, quitting deer hunting in this state will mean some less time in the woods - which is a loss - but considering the opportunities down there if I fail to take enough deer I have only 1 person to blame. My wife's response to that was "good, I like how the guy does the processing down there much better". I have to admit he does a better job than the few I've tried around here and his prices are comparable to the least expensive one I've used here as well. In any case by Christmas I'm done for the year - I really have no desire to brave the elements by then and I'm not going out on Christmas day. I kind of hate seeing the firearms come out in Oct on the other end. Besides there is what Deertracks said in the other thread.

I voted Christmas only because deer hunting is not a warm weather sport to me. Of course, having grown up hunting deer in northern Michigan, I cannot get excited about being on the deer stand in tee shirt and shorts which can easily happen in southern Indiana in October. Put about three inches of fresh snow on the ground during deer season and I am in hog heaven. But that's just me and probably not applicable to anyone else.

I am so ![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v474/Woowoo1/censored.gif) ed about this whole firearms season thing right now I cannot honestly make a decision on the vote. The landowner where I hunt has a lot of ag crop damage along with hardwood tree farm damage (buck rubs) to potential veneer timber every year & that is the reason I was invited by him to hunt the farm in the first place. This farm is one of the top performing hardwood tree farms in Indiana as far as Purdue University is concerned since they use it as part of their forestry degree curriculum. I owe it to him for the hunting privileges to take out all of the bucks & does that I legally can but then IDNR hog-ties us with the OBR & now this.

anyone else like me? Given the choice I think I would hunt in my favorite Mil/Ref with a gun beginning Oct 1. I assume bucks will be fair game.
