As a gun hunter, I appreciate the fact that during some years the rut is in. Those buck deer act as drivers for me. They keep the does from bedding down to early and run them by my gun.

Random question...... How much of a reduction in the deer herd could we accomplish if the first 2 weeks of October was "gun" season with the second two weeks were Muzzle Loader season?

Well it will not be as effectiva as sayy stuffing all of what you said into NOV .Simply because of heat ,cover being way thick and crops standing everywhere . So effective it would be but not a very good Idea .IMHO

The only thing is people are going to only take so many so it may not be as big as you may think but I understand your point; just goes to show what's driving this.

What's driving this is the greed of a few with an agenda to further. If this pipe dream worked and more trophy class deer result the inevitable result will be more boots in the woods. Those boots will quickly be followed by rampant leasing and the practical end of hunting for any but those with deep pockets and those who accomodate them. Look at who wants the changes that most of us consider negativeto our interests, the picture isn't hard to draw. There is no aspect of trophy hunting that benefits either the herd, or the IDNR's ability to manage it.

Well, I finally found a guy last night who didnt like the proposed changes. I have talked to a half dozen deer hunters .... none were aware of the possible changes.
5 were in favor of them based on what is known at this time ..... and the hunter last night didnt seem to thrilled.
I am planning on stopping into the local achery shop and making the owner aware and get a feeler for what more guys around here think.

Did I miss something here. When are these proposed season changes to take place because the 2010 season is posted and I didn't see any change in the gun season.

I've told 5 guys about these rules, all were happy about increased youth opportunity, and all were not happy with the changes to firearms and muzzleloader seasons.

I believe it will reflect on who you ask, rather what crowd you run with. If you ask a bow shop owner, he'll like it....because it increases his need and doesn't give anythiong to the crossbow guys. Go ask a gun store owner and you'll likely see some negative feedback. These changes will be favorable for the OBR guys as it furthers the original agenda. That's why they are here.

One of the 5 was a bow shop owner, but an avid deer hunter, and dislikes any loss of opportunity.

The reason I choose to talk to the archery shop is because we really do not have a local gun shop.
The largest melting pot of local sportsman are patrons of this particular shop as they sell clothing, boys, bikes, and bait. They are also the largest local check station.
I agree the opinion will be biased toward archery though ...... but it is what it is.

I have had some folks that have talked to wildlfe biologists and they haven't heard a thing either. I sent Phil Bloom an email and asked why they cant send ths out as a Wildlife Bulletin. If and when a I get a reply I'll post it.

Woody! It looks like you are going to have to change the rules for the HI deer hunting contest this year. Namely one for archery, one for ml, & one for modern firearms along with awarding more points for antlerless deer......
