Anyone know how to salt a turkey with the feathers from right behind its head forming a 'v' all the way to the tail feathers?
Essentially you end up with a full fan and the 'v' shaped salted feathers for the rest of the mount....any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks!

Dont use salt. If you want to preserve it use Borax. You can buy it at any grocery store.

Clean it of as much fat/meat as you can. Tack it out flat on a board, and douse liberally with Borax.

Never heard of the "V" that you described. It should work though....like the others said DO NOT USE salt to preserve. Either go with the borax (found in the laundry detergent section) or get some Dry Preserve through any taxidermy supply co.. Make certain you use a wire brush and rake off all the fat on the skin and completely cover with borax. If you don't the fat will soak into the wall or wherever you hang your mount. I would probably make a panel for the hide to be against so that you can tack the skin out nice and flat.
You might try taxidermy.net and ask the guys there. They generally are very helpful.

I do that to all the ones I kill now. It is easier if you let the bird get stiff first. 2nd pin/nail it to the board with the feathers up. I did the first few feathers down and they were all matted when I turn it over.
