Hey Guys,
A friend and I want to hunt turkeys on public land in southern Indiana this spring. We both missed out on the draw this year. Since we live up in northern Indiana we don't get to scout much down south. Any suggestions on where we might go? Thanks, h.h.

I would suggest The Hoosier National Forest. I am not hunting this area, but the ranger at the Bedford office told me the Maine Pond area hold good numbers of turkey. You can PM me if you want some more specific info. Eric

H.H., I can't speak for all areas of HNF, but about anywhere in Jackson & Washington Co. off of 135 is pretty fair hunting. In fact, I've taken my biggest bird to date (26 lbs. & 38 mm spurs)on HNF near Houston.

Hornharvester, Pike County is very nice country and has plenty of Public land in Pike State Forest and Sugar Ridge F&W area. I killed a couple birds there when I was in College at Vincennes. There is primitive camping and also excellent fishing in some of the strip pits if you take a light boat or canoe. It is near the town of Winslow.

H.H.
If you're interested in the Pike State Forest/Sugar Ridge FWA let me know if you need a map of either (or a county map). I'll drop one in the mail to you. Also, if you need a place to set up a camper/tent near either, I live about 1 mile north of the PSF.
