Saw two nice gobblers struttin in a green field this afternoon. I got in close to em and watched for a while. There was two gobblers and two hens feeding. The gobblers never broke strutt except one time, one gobblers mounted a hen, she sat for him and he mounted her and was definately breeding her. I hate to see this so early with season 4 week away.. Anybody else seen birds in Indiana breeding? It's kind boggles my mind because two days ago I seen a flock of 30 birds and I thought " we'll their still in their Winter patterns", but not more than a mile as the birds flys I saw these four birds today breeding...

I was at a turkey seminar a few weeks back and Matt Morrett of Hunters Specialties said that turkeys actually are breeding now, this is normal. He said that they actually will have two sets of poults, in some cases. It takes 28 days to mature the eggs, so if they are laying when we get in the woods, they have to start now. Not all the birds will be ready now and this is also a state of Indiana protection thing, I believe. This lets the Toms bread before we go out and take some home....

Why don't they do that with our whitetail deer? I hate that gun season comes in at peak rut most years. Many big bucks are taken ,out trolling for does. I like the way Illinois has their gun season set up. One three day hunt and another four day hunt and week between the two...AT least we got the one buck rule now, I can see a difference in the quality of deer taken last year in Indiana, even though the DNR says they don't think it's making much difference.. Sometimes I wonder about those people writing all the regulations?...
