Put another one together. Nothing too fancy 20" 5.56: JP trigger, MagPul trigger guard and Vortex 4-12 glass. Bunch of the stuff cam fron Del-Ton. Only shot it at 50yds. put 5 rounds better than touching and #6 just off to the left. Looking promising so far, I've been wanting to try a Vortex just because and for a moderately priced scope it's not bad. The aftermarket trigger was defintiely worth doing as well.

Nice! And if you don't mind me asking, what is the price tag for the whole rig?

Roughly $950; I think! The stripped lower is one of a run of 150 for arfcom with their logo etc on it so I spent a little extra $$$ there.

surely that $950 does not include optics? Or does it?
I have toyed with the idea of trying some vortex glass for a few years .... I have never read a bad thing about them and everyone seems to be in love with their warranty. How do you like it so far? Which model do you have?

Thats outstanding grouping for a brand new build. What barrel? I'm assuming those were handloads?
Nice looking rifle BTW

Got the barrel from Del-Ton. I was rather pleasantly surprised myself. My 16" won't do that.

What's the verdict on the Vortex glass dbd870?

It's not quite as nice as one of my VXIII's but it does not loose any clarity throughout the adjustment range (not milky) and is certainly shootable. There are scopes that I just won't buy(NCStar, Barska etc) then on the opposite end there are scopes that I won't layout the big $$$ for (S&B etc). This scope falls inbetween in the catagory of the good value for the price - think Weaver and by all accounts the new Redfields; although I'd give a slight edge to the Weaver in low light conditions.

I've been happy with the middle of the road Bushnells ("Banner Dusk and Dawn") for the same reason... Very good glass for the price, very clear at all magnification levels, holds a zero at all magnification levels, repeatable adjustments, plus they're rated to live on top of "adult" airguns, so they've got to be stout!
