I already applied for firearms 2nd. lotto as a non-resident, you've been able to apply as a non -resident for firearms since May..
Archery will be June 1st until they sell out which they won't do...25,000 NR tags at 410.00 each, plus 50.75 hunting license and habitat stamp 458.00 dollars...they'll have plenty of archery tags from June 1st. until whenever they sell 25,000, which they never do.

I'm totally confused. This is my first time applying for firearms and I called the IDNR and they told me as a Non-resident I can go ahead right now and apply online direct sales for firearms...so I did, they deducted the fees from my account etc..but their site says July 1st-Aug 16th for non-resident applications..but the IDNR says " that's just for the paper application to download and send in....?.....Why so confusing? anybody know if I'm good or do I still need to apply for the permit in July...?

Ive always heard July 1st. I usually dont apply till August 10th. No need to give up the money until you have to.

I'm just the opposite Woodmaster..I'd rather get it over with ASAP, one less thing to worry about.I did find out that you can actually apply as a non-resident for firearms after the first lotto drawing starting in May and up until Aug 16th..I got my paper application in the mail today, but won't need it since I already applied online...If you're sending a hard copy app. piece of paper to the IDNR you have to wait until July 1st...

I havent seen it on the website tho. I sent an email to IDNR asking for clarification on the deadline for non-resi archery tags and here is the response... The application period is June 1 – June 30. It doesn’t matter if you submit your application on the 1st, mid June or before midnight on June 30th, this will be a lottery.
The last couple of years everyone that applied in the lottery was awarded permits and remaining permits where then sold over the counter as first come, first serve.
Remember every year is different, just because we didn’t sell them all out last year in the lottery doesn’t necessarily mean the same will happen this year
Permit OfficeSo there you have it ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

They always have tags left over..not saying it won't happen, but I can't remember in recent times when they sold out of non-resident archery tags..no one should have any trouble getting an archery tag anytime from June 1st. till the end of season...that being said, if you want to guarantee a tag, put in for the lotto June 1st.

About 4-5 years ago they sold out in 3 days, that was when they capped it at 15,000 and before the present price hike. 2 years ago, they also sold out but it was late into the season when they ran out.

Now they sell 25,000 NR tags, and with the economy like it is, I doubt seriously they'll sell out at $458.00 for a non- resident to hunt.I've never had trouble getting my Illinois tag for archery since 1999, it's the firearms tags I have trouble with...

The best way to purchase licenses and tags is online-it won't let you make a mistake.
