3 of us went to the Rosebud Indian Reservation in 2000. At the time we could kill one gobbler and one hen. We really didn't have any desire to kill any hens till we saw a "smoke" phase one. We ended up seeing five of them and killing 2. We never saw any gobblers like that but we talked to Indians that had. A "smoke" phase hen that Dean ended up killing. Deans hen Deans gobbler. The only gobbler we killed that had real white tips on the fan. My gobbler and hen. Another view. Tony and Deans gobblers. You can really tell the difference in the tail colors. The gobblers weighed between 22 and 24 lbs and had spurs between 1" and 1 1/4"

Gorgeous birds. I bet you are happy to have such fine trophy photos as they are the next best thing to being there. Thanks for sharing them.

Thanks for the comments. I got both both birds mounted. I let a friend of mine borrow the hen mount for his new hunting lodge in Illinois. Unfortunately his dog tore it up.

There's a grey phase hen like that that eats in our front yard with a flock of regular hens , I hope she made it through the Fall season last year .

Great looking birds!! I love those merriams. You don't hear a lot about Rosebud anymore. Seems like everyone wants to go to the Black Hills now if they are headed to SD. I went to Rosebud several years ago and did see a few birds.
