Will the sunflower seed used in bird feed grow if it were planted as a food plot?
Trying to figure this out as I would like to place this within my food plot rotation this year. You can buy in small packets for bigger $ or buy bird feed sunflowers in bulk for smaller $. Any input would be great. Thanks

Yes, they will grow. You can make a test pack using a wet paper towel and a few seeds folded up in the towel, then place in a window where the sun will shine on it. If the seeds are good they will sprout in a couple days. h.h.

For our small food plot we use some feed oats instead of the high dollar Buck Forage Oats. I think that the bag we get is 50# for about $7. More than enough for the 2 acres.

Woody, where do you get them? Does Big R or Rural king carry them? Yes, they will grow. Rural King does have the Sunflower seeds for about $12 for a bag of 40 pounds. Feed oats we get from the Farm Bureau Coop for about $7-$8 for 50 pounds..
