At the flea market today, mom comes up to me and says, "I saw a gun with a hatchet on it!" " ?" I replied. Well, look for yourselves. I have no Idea what the heck this is. The "Stock" looks like some old tool handle. The hammer is broke; there is some kind of working spring mechanism. There is a pan that appears to have no hole, and what I think is a frizzen. At first glance, it looks like a prop or a toy made for a kid. But..... If it's a prop...what is the bizarre, quite real, medieval axe thing??? It reminds me of some of the weird guns you see Bedouins carrying.

Kind of puts "fix bayonets" in a new light.

Looks like a "Matchlock" battle weapon to me.

Sent the pic over to one of my friends that does the SCA re-enactments. He's also somewhat of a gun collector too....should be interesting to see what his thoughts are

Sent the pic over to one of my friends that does the SCA re-enactments. He's also somewhat of a gun collector too....should be interesting to see what his thoughts are Cool. I look forward to it! Here is what he just sent back to me: It’s most likely a replica, but I’ve seen other gun-and-something-else weapons in museums or private collections. During the single-shot black powder era there were various designs that tried to hedge your bets on surviving a deadly threat once you’d fired (or misfired) the piece. Gun-knife and gun-sword combinations seemed to be more common, but I’ve seen one or two axes, and even a matchlock gun set in the middle of a round shield from the 1500s. During the 1800s, there were gun/switchblade/brass knuckle combinations.
Still, something like this might be just the thing for close-quarters Russian Boar hunting.
The last was added because he knows my leanings towards any kind of feral pig hunting I can find.... ;D

Vampire slaying tool if ever I saw one! Was there a box of wooden bullets to go with it?

Fascinating. Never seen anything like it. Actually, I have also seen "secondary" weapons mounted on rifles, but nothing like this. Thanks for posting!
