Indiana's first fall turkey season.
It sure didn't seem like there was much fan fare with it. Heck, I don't think a majority of folks even knew you could take one.
We ate breakfast Sunday morning at Cracker Barrell and I struck up a conversation with the fella that was sitting next to us, since he was wearing a cammo hat & shirt, I figured he was a hunter.......He was.
Of course being the day after I took my first fall bird and my first turkey with archery, I just had to let it out.
His response was "you did WHAT !! ?"....when I told him that I had killed a hen turkey on Saturday.
"I didn't know that"....was his response when I told him that there was a fall turkey season this year.
What could the DNR do to better get the word out for next year?

Well, if a hunter did not know there was a fall turkey season, then they are way too busy or just don't care enough to read a newspaper or website on occasion. And they obviously did not pick up a new hunting guide. This stuff doesn't make the front page of the local newspaper or the lead story on the channel 13 news, and it never has. Picking up a hunting guide when they come out in August goes a long way if a guy doesn't use the internet.

Or he could pull up on his PC.. huntingindiana.proboards52.com/index.cgi...signed up and would have known for sure..

I got a similar response from a few hunters around here. It seems like the only guys who really claimed to have heard about it were those of us that are big spring turkey hunters.
Then there are those like the guy I work with who was bow hunting them, but could not wait for this past weekend because he would get to use a shot gun. I politely let him know that we are in a no shot gun county. He was clueless. I'll never figure these guys out. They can take the time to go hunt, but can't take the time to read and understand the regulations. It's not that hard to understand this stuff.
