For the last couple years I have tried to document what I see on stand. I figure others do the same. I have added up my totals for October and here is what I did and saw. If anyone else keeps a log like this, put it here if you wish.
October hunting results... Hours on stand ............................... 30.5 Total deer seen from stand.............. 26 Does/Bucks ...................................... 20/6 Total shot opportunities ................... 8 Total shots taken .............................. 2 Total harvests ................................... 0
(that's right, I missed twice...long stories)

I have been getting the DNR archery list for several years and really enjoy keeping track of what I see. Even if you do not have this just keep a sheet of paper handy where you remove your camies and write all info down as soon as you get in.

I have a hunting binder. In it I keep a packing checklist, a printout of the hourly weather forcast (winds and temps) for the days I will be hunting, an aerial photo of my hunting property in a plastic sleave so I can use dry erase markers on it, a couple of printed off temporary transportation tags from the DNR (since I have a LTL), a table of sunrise and sunset times for Oct., Nov., and Dec., and a bunch of hunting log forms that I created for myself. The blank forms have the Date, Time in/Time out, weather conditions, stand taken, and the rest of the sheet is lined off for observations and results.

I chart where and when I see deer. Over the years I 've developed some good patterns. I keep a copy of the map I use at work, each day I see deer, I mark a blue X for a buck, red X for each doe. in pencil I mark travel paths.

I purhcased an inexpensive software program called "BuckSpy". It is pretty neat! I have logged every observation, and it lets you enter details and then sorts into a report. Pretty cool. Also lets you download pictures into an album.
