I had the same group of turkeys come near me 3 diferent times before roosting. I am comfortable at 40 yards but they were a bit further. Close but no cigar for now...

No....."skunked" However, I can tell you guys what not to do if a group of 5 long beards are out in the middle of a field chasing each other as if they were playing tag.......DON'T GIVE A QUIET SERIES OF 4 TO 5 YELPS FOLLOWED WITH A COUPLE OF CLUCKS. Is it a dry gulch situation for longbeards? Any suggestions, cause I would really like to put my tag on the biggest on of this group.

Had I not been completely focused on a quickly departing doe I would have had a great opportunity at a nice tom before he decided to depart quickly as well.
If it were me I would find out exactly where they are roosting and set an evening ambush there.

Dry a few gobbler yelps. maybe a jake decoy to work on the dominance factor.

Brother in law from Laport Co. called this morning. He got a deer Sun morning and got a hen this morning. I say he is off to one heck of a start. He said he caught the whole thing on tape as the hen worked his calls and dekes just perfectly. He shot it with mechanicals and the arrow made it through the bird but not all the way.
Needless to say his head is probaly the size of a hot air baloon now!!!! I know mine would be.

This happened Saturday evening. Why all the confusion?

Ohhhh, I see!! I meant to put Saturday evening, not "this". Ha, this must seem fishy, but it was on Sat. I was on another forum sharing a different story and must have gotten confused. Sorry guys. I would still like to know how the successful here called any turkeys this time of the year. I mainly tried spot-and-stalk tactics. It was a lot of fun but made me pull out my hair more than once. Also did anyone see many or any long-beards to speak of.?

This happened Saturday evening. Why all the confusion? I guess because you posted it today and said "this PM" we jumped to the conclusion that you were still hunting turkeys. I'll delete my post..

I only sat up once in a ground blind with decoys in a dusting area. I called mostly with lost hen yelPs and a few kee-kee runs.
NADA..
I tried the same calls while deer hunting..
NADA again...
My only run in with turkeys was happenstance and they didn't come quite close enough.
I'll get them come spring..

We never called them.
We had been seeing them on several hunts and just kept trying to set up on where we thought they would be.

In the flock?
There were 30+ birds in the flock we were hunting and 4-5 of them were toms. The toms seemed to keep their distance from the rest of the birds, most in the flock were juveniles.
