Actually, turkeys are very stupid. I have heard (and this might be a myth too) that turkeys have been known to drown in a rain storm because they look up too long!
They definitely have keen vision and hearing, but they are not very smart.

They are stupid. They have a brain the size of pea. MAN on the other hand has a HUGE brain. The problem is we use such a miniscual amount of it it makes Turkeys looks smart.lol If a Turkey had the sense of hearing and smell that deer have then we would never bag one!

Didn't read all of the www.turkeyhuntingsecrets.combut I've been told, caution wise, that a deer thinks every human is a tree and a turkey thinks every tree is a human.

LOL....The biggist myth is that they are hard to kill!!!!!
Imagine if deer acted in the same manner......let you know their location of the evening and then again right at first light and then nearly everytime you called, stayed put all night, only roamed during daylight, didn't spook at your scent.......on & on.

The rest of the story. ok. I was calling the turkey to me and Indy ambushed it and said it was running away from me. When I got over to the body and did my analysis you could clearly see the bird fell in the direction of coming to me. Further research showed the shot had entered the head/neck area from the left side, clearly showing the bird was coming to me not away from me. He clearly ambushed my bird. Now I'm sure he'll come up with some cock-a-maim story just like he did with Duff not loading his gun. You've been caught Indy and Duff will vouch for me. This is Art, good night.

LMAO! You guys are good! Okay so i'm sneaky. But sometimes sneaky works.
The TRUE rest of the story......Mr. 410 started calling this bird (after I convinced him to go back out at 10am instead of going to Bass Pro in Springfield). So this bird gobbles, and another gobbles. He gets them close, but these birds are "sneaky" and pass by without a shot fired. Mr 410 then decides to get up and move away from me. So he and his 250lb 10 guage/Howitzer get up, move down the hill and start calling. I gave the old man the benefit and let this huge mature Tom walk by me once. The bird went right to him! I am guessing he tells himself he "let" the bird go. But I know 410, and if there is a bird in gun range it is getting shot. Well, I let this bird sneak by me once, but I wasn't about to let him go by me a second time. So I shot him. I gave them both a chance. I know that bird was in 410's lap. I kept waiting to hear him shoot. And when that bird came flying back up the hill I assumed that 410 found out I unloaded his gun when he wasn't looking and heard the "click". I don't know for sure why 410 didn't kill that bird. I have good reason to believe he was talking to Duff on the cell phone so they could get their stories straight.

All I have to say and them I'm through with this is, forensics don't lie. This bird was ambushed on the way in, not out.

Maybe if you could work a call I wouldn't have told you to "leave the call in the truck" and you could have called in your own bird. Dang young pups.
