I'm a sucker for a GOOD deer story.
But it seems like most of the recent stories I have read, around the net and in hunting magazines, all have a common denominator....deer cams!
I can sure see how passing a nice 2.5 y/o buck is awfull tempting, when you have been getting deer cam pics of a BIGGER 3.5 y/o.
Do you use a deer cam, and have you benefitted from it's use?

I've been using deer cams for about three years now. I would have to say the biggest benefit for me is seeing what is out there, especially when I have not previously seen the deer. Cams can also help you figure out patterns or tell you at what times deer are moving through a certain area. I can't say that using a deer cam has helped me to kill a deer yet, but this is the first year I have tried to hunt a buck that I got a picture of.

They remind me of when I was a kid running my trap line. Looking forward to seeing what's on the camera...
Haven't helped me at all deer huhnting, but that's I really haven't tried to use it like that. I have mine over a salt lick and feeder.

I love my Leaf River. Last year, it captured a picture of the 9 pointer that I ended up shooting two weeks later.
This year it has captured a 120's 8 pointer that I've passed up now three times.

That adds a definite cool factor to the hunt and pictures I think.

I Have a Leaf River Infa Red model and I really enjoy it. It is neat to see what is moving around on the property you hunt.

Myself I feel trail cams is kinda of cheating to a since, but this is my only opinion. I feel trail cams can be fun hobby. The problem I see with trail cams is it shows me what I have always knew long befroe they can out. The big boys spend most of their fedding and movement in the hours of darkness. I also feel it causes more hunters to pass bucks that they would normally take in a moment just because they have a picture of something bigger roaming the land.
Myself I do not want one because that means I am enter the area frequently and not hunting just to check the cam. This is leaving scent and pressure in your hunting area. I would rather take the time and use binoculars or night vision from a distance to determine what is in my area with out spooking deer. This way any pressure the deer get is from me actually hunting them.

Interesting point about spooking deer there cday..
I make it a practice to never out a trail camera at the spot where I am hunting or on a scrape line that I ma hunting.
The one I have out now is between two stands about an equal distance of 125 yards each way.
How about the FLASH?
Does anyone think that might spook them off?

Woody I have watched the deer walk in front of my cam out back many, many times and pay no mind at all too the FLASH. I do think this is because most of the deer around here feed fields near roads and are use to the head lights.
