Just got back from south Texas earlier this week. Had some great hunts on Falcon Reservior and on the coast near Port Isabel. I wanted to bring home a drake Mottled Duck for the wall. Never expected to kill one with a band. We went 2 for 2 on banded drake Mottled ducks. He will go on the wall next to my black duck.

I guess I need to do a better job of IDing ducks, I'm still learning about waterfowl hunting but if some one came to me with a pic of that duck I'd say WOW a banded hen Mallard! That's pretty cool though! Did you guys shoot a lot of birds? Any pintail or teal?

there should be a white band on the bottom of the speculum, and a black spot on the bill where it meets the feathers, we'll know for sure when he turns in the numbers.

Logged onto the Bird Banding website the day after killing it. Both were Mottled Ducks, banded 5 days apart. Band Number 1637-26511. You don't find Black Ducks 15 miles from Mexico.
