Well had an experience Friday morning. I just bought two pups from Bucktender on here about three weeks ago. Well took them out Friday with my one good dog and just got out of the truck and hadn¡¦t walked 50 yards when my brother looks over and says that pups on the ice. We look over and right then the smallest pup goes under the ice. We go running over to it and my brother pushes me over and says I¡¦m lighter. He gets down and glides over to the whole and pulls the pup out. He slings it over to me and I grab his boot and pull him off the ice just as it starts to crack. What a start to the day¡K ƒº We didn¡¦t get anything but it was funny watching that pup not even step on the ice puddles in the field after that. I¡¦ve never had dogs go on the ice before. I¡¦ve even had dogs that ran around a lake once to pick up the trail on the other side. But never had any walk on a frozen pond. Guess maybe that¡¦s why because they have all had an experience like the one my new pup had¡K ƒº Just had to share. Hope everyone stays safe and keep those dogs off the ice.. ƒº

Ive been in twice once when i was a kid checking my trap line leaned over the creek bank to check a trap and the root I was holding onto broke sent me head first thru the thin ice on the creek. I was 1/2 mile from home and by the time I got there my clothes were frozen to the point I had to sit in the basement and let them thaw enough to get them out. Second time was 2 years ago, was just out for a walk in the snow in the Jan woods and went across what I had no idea was standing water....until i heard the crack. went up up to my waist on that one. but i did learn under armor acts kinda like a wet suit. I was warm but the time I rode the 4 wheeler back to the house.

I sold a nice red & white young male to a friend in Hammond. Later on he called me and told me the dog had died. There had been a thaw and the rivers back up and flooded, then receded. The dog went onto the ice and fell in. It was too deep for the guy to save the dog and the dog drowned. I am very careful with my dogs in early winter when the ice is thin. h.h.
